Following on from what we discussed earlier, here are five other clear signs of stress in the workplace:
6. Irritability:
It often goes hand in hand with stress. Abruptness, bluntness, and being overly aggressive are symptoms to watch out for, especially if these reactions occur in situations that would not normally elicit this type of response.
7. Withdrawal from social activities at work:
If work is causing stress, it is possible that the behavior will be to start withdrawing from everything related to it, including events outside the office, such as work-related social gatherings.
8. Lack of punctuality:
Timing usually becomes an issue when stress is work-related. If a colleague starts missing deadlines, it could be a sign that their workload is overwhelming them.
9. Increased sensitivity:
If a colleague is stressed out by work, they may be more sensitive than usual, especially when it comes to work-related conversations.
For example, you find comments or jokes about your performance more annoying than usual.
10. Lack of energy:
Stress can take a toll on both your mental and physical health. If you notice that a coworker suddenly seems slow and lethargic, this could be a sign of work-related stress affecting their physical well-being.
Now that you know the signs that indicate stress, do you identify with any of them?
Once we become aware of behaviors that may be harmful to us, taking action is extremely important. Allowing stress to gradually build up is a direct path to burnout.
How can we avoid this? How can we change the organizational culture to one that is both more effective and compassionate? How can we be more efficient through calmness rather than stress?
See you in the next post with the answers!
