The Success of the 4-Day Workday in the United Kingdom
At VIAHR (Vacation is a Human Right), we are committed to raising awareness about the importance of taking breaks to prevent burnout. We want to share with you exciting news about how the four-day working day is transforming productivity in the UK and how this approach aligns with our mission.
Surprising Results of the Pilot Test in the United Kingdom
In June 2022, more than 3,300 employees from 70 companies in the United Kingdom participated in the world's largest pilot test of a four-day work week. The result was surprising: not only was productivity not reduced, but it actually increased! 88% of the participating companies say that this new dynamic is working exceptionally well for their business.
Keys to the Success of the 4-Day Journey
At VIAHR, we believe that taking breaks and rest periods is essential to work wellness. Some of the keys to the success of the four-day workday include reforming meetings, conscious use of technology and creating specific periods for focused work, meetings and social time. These changes promote a healthy work-life balance, preventing burnout.
Global Perspective on Shorter Working Hours
In addition, globally, at least 17 countries are experimenting with reduced working hours. In the United Kingdom, positive results have led many companies to consider maintaining a four-day working day even after the experiment has ended. In Spain, the Ministry of Industry is facilitating the reduction of the working day to four days for some 150 companies, with a budget of ten million euros. VIAHR applauds this effort and continues to advocate the importance of taking breaks to prevent burnout.
Focus on Workplace Well-Being
As a foundation, we share a fundamental principle with the four working days proposal: the belief in the importance of caring for the health and well-being of workers. Both initiatives seek to create more humane work environments, where rest and free time are recognized as fundamental rights!
