10 behaviors that prevent you from overcoming burnout

10 behaviors that prevent you from overcoming burnout

Recovering from burnout is a process of awareness.

However, in the search for solutions, we often completely ignore habits that we believe to be positive (or harmless), but which we should avoid.

For that reason, this time we decided to focus on those behaviors that people often engage in and that are unhealthy in an attempt to relieve the pressure they feel.

We have compiled a list of 10 of them, some identified by Harvard Health Publishing magazine. These are:

  • Deny the situation
  • Watch endless hours of television
  • Withdrawing from friends or partners or, conversely, jumping into a frenetic social life to avoid facing problems
  • Overeating
  • Sleeping much longer than usual
  • Drinking alcohol in large quantities
  • Assaulting others in emotionally or physically violent outbursts
  • Starting to smoke or smoking more than usual
  • Taking prescription or over-the-counter medications that promise some form of relief, such as sleeping pills, anti-anxiety medication, and muscle relaxants
  • Taking illegal or dangerous drugs

Although they may be seen as immediate relief, negative effects are inevitable.

Once we detect the signs of burnout, it is essential to take action to begin remedying it.

Beyond the obvious impact on mental health, burnout can also undermine your creativity. Don't try to avoid it. Instead, seek support, take a break, and make space for self-reflection.
