Last week we talked about the causes of stress in the workplace, but how do we know if they had an effect on you, your employees, or your coworkers? Here are 10 clear signs that indicate this.
Today we will begin with the first five signs of work-related stress:
1. Work longer hours:
Starting early, working late, and working during breaks. That "I can't stop for a second" behavior is a clear sign of someone who is struggling with their workload.
2. Visibly tired:
It is not uncommon for people who are stressed to have difficulty sleeping at night. If an employee/coworker seems regularly exhausted, it could be a telltale sign of stress.
3. More absences:
Beginning to reserve more free time than usual, taking regular short-term absences due to an ongoing problem may be a reflection of underlying stress.
4. Unusual behavior:
It is common for stressed people to act "out of place."
For example, they may start arriving late, behaving aggressively, or being unusually quiet.
5. Decreased work performance:
It is difficult for anyone to perform at their best if they are stressed about work.
Lack of concentration, indecision, and inability to complete tasks are clear signs.
Just as important as understanding the causes is knowing what a stressed person looks like. That's how we can take the necessary steps to reduce stress and, as a result, prevent burnout!
See you next week to talk about the other five signs, and let us know if you identify with any of them...
