Something we rarely consider when learning to change and improve the way we feel is to remember that every negative mood has its roots in an emotion and a thought.
What does that mean?
When we find ourselves in a moment of stress, sadness, anger, or apathy, it is extremely powerful to remember:
"The reason for my state of mind is a thought and an emotion."
Then, ask ourselves: What am I thinking about this situation that is making me feel this way? Or, what emotion am I feeling that is causing these thoughts?
Once we recognize this, the final and most important question arises:
How would I view this situation if I didn't have this thought? Or, how would I interpret this event if I wasn't feeling this emotion?
At that moment, we realize that everything we are perceiving has to do with our thoughts about the event.
We recognize the power we have to change even our actions, simply by changing how we think about everything we experience.
