While it is extremely important to answer the question"How can I manage stress?", it is equally—or even more—important to answer"What can I do to reduce my stress levels?"
In the case of the first question, it is : how can we calm down once we are already stressed? In the case of the second question, it is : what can we do to avoid having to apply the first question so much?
Even if the situations are the same, the interpretation of the questions is related to objectivity.
Learning to change how we perceive everyday events can make the difference between a chaotic life and a harmonious one.
So, let's get started:
The key is to start regulating yourself BEFORE you become stressed:
The first step is to recognize: "I'm starting to feel stressed. Why?"
The next step is to ask ourselves the right questions:
- What is the WORST that can happen if things don't turn out the way I have in mind?
- Am I waiting for my peace of mind to come from results?
- Can I remain calm even if not everything goes as I want it to?
- How would you interpret this same situation if you weren't stressed?
This is a "stressful moment to stressful moment" exercise. By quickly scanning our thoughts and asking ourselves the right questions, we can drastically change how we view the event.
The most important thing is to always keep in mind the magic phrase , "I can see this situation without stressing out. I can see this situation without fear/anger/distress." The root of interpretation lies within us, not in the event itself.
