Less burnout starting NOW in 3 steps

Although burnout syndrome is a much more complex issue, it is small everyday changes that will help you feel more recovered and full of energy.

So, getting down to business, what can you do to start feeling better right NOW?

1. After each task is completed, take a moment to celebrate it.

One of the reasons we become overly tired is because of this feeling of giving, giving, giving, and not feeling that we are receiving anything in return. Even though it is our job, our actions are often defined by and for someone else.

Every time you finish a pending task, take a moment to have a coffee, make a phone call, or take a short break for a couple of minutes. This changes your mood and recharges you to move on to the next pending task.

2. While you are working on one goal, don't think about the other things you have to do.

If you are working on a specific task but your mind is on the other five things you still have to do, you are wasting energy, losing focus, and causing yourself anxiety over something you cannot solve at that exact moment. The reality is that you can only deal with one thing at a time. So think about one thing at a time.

3. If you feel overwhelmed at any point during the day, continuing to work will not make you feel better.

The belief that "more is always better" is not necessarily true. If you have been working for hours and start to feel overwhelmed or stressed, continuing to work to "finish faster" can have the opposite effect. You are not feeling 100% when you feel this way, and what could take 20 minutes ends up taking much longer.

In these cases, taking 10 or 15 minutes to close your eyes and rest can be extremely effective when it comes to recharging your batteries.

Regardless of the job, remember that you are the priority. Your well-being. And the responsibility for changing how you feel is yours.
