What now?

How do you treat yourself whenever you finish a task on your to-do list?

We often put pressure on ourselves and don't give ourselves the space to recognize the good work we are doing.

When you start working, as you finish task after task, pending item after pending item, take a couple of minutes to celebrate yourself. Something simple: a coffee, some cookies, giving yourself permission to relax and think about what you've wanted to think about but haven't been able to because you're busy, stepping away from the computer and your cell phone.

Anything. It's your time.

When you return to work, even if it was just a couple of minutes, you will feel better simply because you are allowing yourself to release that self-imposed pressure. You are giving yourself some space, and you are doing so knowing that it is okay. Recognize this. Relax. And come back recharged.

You will start the next task with more energy, clarity, and a better attitude. Finally,

Remember that preventing and overcoming burnout is a daily task. It's a compound effect. Doing small things (that don't require much effort on your part) will help alleviate the emotional burden you've been carrying for some time.
